Where are we now?

‘Dan Perjovschi is a visual artist mixing drawing, cartoon and graffiti in artistic pieces drawn directly on the walls of museums and contemporary at spaces all over the world. Lives and works in Bucharest.’

The work of Dan Perjovschi. Newspaper sources with drawings. Details.

Reverse View

‘The installation consists of a paint-bucket and a reversed, continuous world map cut from polyester-coated aluminium.’

This piece by Jørgen Craig Lello and Tobias Arnell illustrate the disconnect. See more of their work here.

Aside from the breasts, ‘Reverse View’ is one of the main images used for The 28th Biennial of Graphic Arts in Slovenia.

Graphic Design Biennial, with breasts

‘The Biennial of Graphic Arts, which has been held without interruption since 1955, has a longer tradition than any other recurring exhibition in Slovenia and, in fact, is one of the oldest print biennials in the world.’

‘Oh, I get it, it’s a pun on ‘graphic,’ right?’ –Dabitch

This year they’ve decided to promote the Biennial with soapy breast billboards placed all over Ljubljana.

And I’d like to say it’s causing quite the outrage. But, no. It is Europe. It’s just turning a few heads.

But in the US, civilization would come to a stop as we know it. Banks would close, all media would crumble.

NBC would cancel another show.

Gossip in Paris

‘Eric Daman’s career has seen many reincarnations, first as a model most notably shot by Steven Meisel, then as a noted editorial stylist, then a sought-after costume designer with credits that range from TV’s Sex and the City to a long list of film titles and now a published author.’

Gossip Girl went to Paris this season with costume designer Eric Daman tagging along.

Astronomical Clock in Strasbourg Cathedral

‘The cathedral’s south transept houses an 18-metre astronomical clock, one of the largest in the world  . . .  The astronomical part is unusually accurate; it indicates leap years, equinoxes, and much more astronomical data. Thus it was already much more a complex calculating machine than a bare clock.’

Photography by Peter Rinblad. More about the clock here.

Fall back

It’s now an hour earlier. If you were observing Daylight Saving Time in the US. Shorter days ahead.

What is love?

‘A Quoi ça sert l’Amour – un Film de Louis Clichy’

Today was my wife’s b-day.

We had dinner at Stockton Joe’s, almost got hit in a crosswalk by a gang banger who yelled at us for being in his way, looked at expensive things we can’t afford at Dillard’s, sat in a lot of horrible traffic and later, ate pistachio gelato at Hot Italian in Sacramento.

We had fun.

The Escoffier font giveaway, enter to win!

I think it’s time for a good old fashioned font giveaway.

Escoffier Capitaux is my tribute to culinary legend Auguste Escoffier – and is based on the 1920s lettering (done while in France) of commercial illustrator/fashion designer Ernst Dryden. The font also has some Herb Lubalin-like ligatures and a bit of Garamond thrown in.

Very French.
