SeventhSwami

This past Sunday night there was an incredible TypeCon party at at the International Printing Museum in Carson, California – I’ll have photos in a later post.

And in the background of the tinkering of machinery (and grilling of some incredible, Southern California tacos) was the music of longtime friend, DJ (and graphic designer) SeventhSwami.

Download some of Swami’s free mixes here.

Blog here. Debut album (pictured above) also available.

Elton John: Tower of Babel

Lady Gaga with The Bolshoi Ballet

A trailer (above) for a performance you’ll never see – because it’s already passed.

Some info here. And the trailer was released four months after the event.

So.

Just enjoy.

Gaga, Mercury, Metropolis

Queen’s Radio Gaga. From 1984.

The video features public domain footage from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927).

Also in 1984, producer Giorgio Moroder updated Metropolis with a rock score – controversial for some purists. Queen’s Freddy Mercury contributed Love Kills to the soundtrack (video below); though unrelated to the Gaga single.

So far, Moroder’s new wave-esque version (due to music licensing) hasn’t been officially released on DVD. But in comparison to the original (which got a complete restoration just this year), Moroder’s music, color tints and enhanced sound fx result in a totally different, very 1980s film experience.

Volcano!

Everyone has their inspirations, their muses. And on the music front, one of mine is the incredible Chelsea Davis. I draw fonts, listen to her tracks. Design some stuff for her. She does a lot.

Chelsea’s classically trained, plays drums for theSTART, Normandie, among a few others. Her personal project is iVellora – and  . . .  great voice.

Her newest project is Volcano Dolls – a collaboration with Suicide Girl Jessica Goodwin (Google Zoli). They’ll be playing LA’s Viper Room this Friday.

Flyer (above) designed by Lux Nova. It features my 2491 font. Volcano Dolls Facebook page here – with new tracks posting soon.

Ppi Ri Ppa Ppa Bbi Ri Bba Bba Bbi Ri Bop

‘Narsha is a member of the South Korean girl group Brown Eyed Girls  . . .  her self-titled debut mini-album was released on July 8th, 2010. A mainly uptempo collection of electropop and dance tracks, she released a music video for the main promotional track, showing a nightmarish concept. The video for this song immediately sparked religious controversy.’
