Had posters, toys, tiny cars (that I’d take to the mechanic to fix when I broke them. Really). And I once got in trouble for painting a 53 on my mom’s old <a href="http://www.carfolio.com/images/dbimages/zgas/models/id/3558/vw_1600_tl.completed.jpg"target="_blank">Volkswagen hatchback (I didn’t care that it wasn’t a beetle. It had a VW on it).

Here’s <a href="http://www.hughbie.com"target="_blank">the website of the ultimate Herbie fan (and Disney employee) Hugh Chitwood. Found these funky images (below) at his site; they were used as promos for the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SdNW3_Sh6E"target="_blank">Fully Loaded (2005) Lohan/Justin Long/Michael Keaton/NASCAR comeback.

Steve Martin changed the game when he arrived on the scene.

He threw out all the rules.
Here’s Martin in headdress, in concert with Henry Winkler:

A few years ago, Martin finally wrote an autobiography of his standup career – which had gotten so big, he was selling out stadiums. Then one night, he quit. Jumped into acting and was mum on the whole standup thing. Only referred to it once, on a episode of Saturday Night Live, stating, ‘that was the old me.’

It was wild and crazy.
