The Vincent Black Shadow was on MySpace. Then they weren’t because their record company did something screwy. Then they were again, with an official new page. I found them thru Lux Nova. She says they’re great live, I haven’t seen them yet. But hope to.
They’re a band. They’re from Canada. They’re named after a motorcycle. They have an incredible vocalist, Cassandra Ford. She is from Manila. That’s in the Philippines. She used to test video games. She is also an artist. They had a song in the Project Greenlight film Feast. This is the video. Feast spawned two sequels. The reality show Project Greenlight was actually produced by the same company that does Project Runway. There is a whole other band called Vincent Black Shadow but it’s not them.
So make sure when you find their page, you have the right one.
Follow all that? There’ll be a quiz later.
The wait was worth it. Amazon.co.uk’s service to the US isn’t fast – and I ordered the CD right after the UK release date. Been playing the tracks for a couple weeks now.
Available in the US as an import, Remi Nicole’s sophomore album Cupid Shoot Me can be compared to Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen. But . . . different. Vintage, soulful and new. Can be dark, but also really fun.
Great review by Pretty Stylish London here.
And here’s a link to a video that will brighten your day . . . (click the image)

*meiko is a musician. Her music tells it like it is – start with her MySpace page, my favorite tracks are Hawaii and How Lucky We Are – the latter, of which, I can totally relate; she did eventually blog about getting ‘out of this shitty apartment.’
And that’s what I love: her MySpace blog – and (update) her tumblr-hosted blog.
She covers what it’s like touring and hanging out. And her sister is fashion designer Kelly Nishimoto. And as of tonight, I just won ‘a personal thumbs up’ (below) because I knew that ‘ATHF!!!’ stands for (either) ‘aqua teen hunger force or a tall happy frenchman’ (all on Twitter, of course).
Video below . . . there’s a lot of stuff under that bed. One can also snag her self-titled album here.
Meiko: cool girl with a guitar.

The aim of design is to define space is a concept I was talking about earlier today in my graphic design history class, tied in with Frank Lloyd Wright’s ‘rectilinear approach to spatial organization.’ [Meggs’, 2006, p. 221]
The Aim of Design is to Define Space is also a German progressive pop band. MySpace page here.

’twas the shirt that lured me in. Shirts (and hoodies) here.
MySpace can get very obnoxious and loud rather fast. And if you’re into it, all the better. If you’re not, go read a government pamphlet or something.
Jérémie Burguiere is Chymer. And his MySpace page was the first one that SCREAMED at me with animated gifs flashing and flashing and flashing. In your face, take no prisoners. Here’s his MySpace presence. His site is here.
And what’s been cool, over the past few years it’s been fun seeing his work evolve into something very sophisticated. He’s one to watch. Portfolio here.
And, as a bonus . . .
Here’s some ‘dirty disco’ from Japan. It’s a remix of many things I grew up with (I do remember disco when disco was disco – got some old 12″s in the garage to prove it). DJ Munoz, a.k.a. The Disco Infiltrator, maintains the London Calling MySpace page here. Website here.
MySpace isn’t quiet nor clean. Deal.
‘The function of music is to release us from the tyranny of conscious thought.’ -Sir Thomas Beecham
My current taste in music comes from too much exposure to MySpace. Music keeps me designing. Keeps me focused. Keeps me in The Zone.
My music picks bounce around a lot. They’re personal. The one constant: I won’t sync with a new band until I’ve been to their MySpace page and test driven.
Unfortunately, I keep seeing remarks/writings/commentary that MySpace is in its 15th minute. Which is such the 21st Century Thing To Do, isn’t it? [Read more →]
