I remember watching this too – September 23, 1977 – and it was actually cooler than The official Star Wars Holiday Special. But . . . Donnie & Marie Osmond had an actual kooky variety show, so the bad jokes and goofy dance numbers were expected.

They were pretty much among the first to really jump on the Star Wars bandwagon. The toys weren’t even out yet; most of the Star Wars tie-ins started appearing in 1978. (And they sort of had the whole Luke/Leia, brother/sister thing figured wayyy before anyone else)

With Red Foxx, Kris Kristofferson, Paul Lynde, the guy who did the voice of Tony the Tiger. And Marie: pretty good stand in for Leia. The bun hairdo works.
