It’s not often one can write a hedline like that.

Sacramento native Annie Rose runs the Deranged Designs fashion studio – and has been doing it a long time.

Her look is punk, her work is prolific, she’s constantly expanding her collection and her approach comes with your basic underground punk doesn’t take shit attitude. But in her case, a really nice doesn’t take shit attitude. Annie is probably one of the nicest punks I’ve ever met.

Annie’s already been doing this a long time and her honest ‘buy my shit’ approach is refreshing to read. Her MySpace page, blog and bulletins are brutally direct and that’s what works. She sells her work online or you can find pieces from her collection at R5 Records (Russ Solomon’s sequel to Tower Records) or at various shows in the area.

Her work isn’t for everyone, but she’s carved out a following – sews everything herself and even corrals her own models; her oft featured standby is Laura Bucholtz (seen below).

Annie is a great example of how today’s young designer should be thinking. The concept of ‘go to school, grow up, get a job, then retire’ doesn’t exist anymore. And if you’re going to do something, do it big and start early.

Annie is still in school (studying fashion design + merchandising) and over time it’s been fun to see her taste and sophistication grow – without losing herself in the mix.

She’s one to watch.
