father held the honor of being the guy who ‘registered the most voters in the State of California.’ He was retired and simply had a lot of time on his hands. So coffee in hand, he set up shop at the local mall – and sort of hung out for a year or so.

He made a few bucks too. Dad found that both Democrats and Republicans actually paid for registered voters. Republicans had a higher payout; but when it came down to it, both parties did find some rather clever ways to avoid actually anteing up. A weaseley Dem, turned out, was pocketing most of Dad’s earnings.

Along the way, Dad also had the dubious honor of once standing up Jerry Brown for breakfust.

‘Just didn’t feel like hanging out’ was what he told me at the time.

Never did find out what that was all about. Just that Dad missed out on a free breakfust with Governor Moonbeam.
